Jenny Agutter having attended Elmhurst Ballet School in the UK took her first lead in the film Ballerina (Walt Disney Productions 1965) and a few years later played Roberta in the film The Railway Children which is still the fondest memory many people have of her as a child star. She went on to make many films in Hollywood (Walkabout, Logan’s Run, The Man In The Iron Mask) and gained an Emmy for her rôle in The Snow Goose.
In 1973 she joined the National Theatre to play Miranda in The Tempest with Sir John Gielgud and went on to play in King Lear and Love’s Labour’s Lost for the Royal Shakespeare Company among many other productions. 1988 she starred alongside Derek Jacobi on Broadway in Breaking The Code. Other films have included An American Werewolf In London, Sweet William and Peter Schaeffer’s Equus for which she won a Bafta.
Television has also featured prominently in her career since the first version of The Railway Children right up to the present with Spooks and The Alan Clark Diaries. Her skills include photography and her work has been published in the book Snap.
